If you happen to visit Rajasthan, the chances are that you may come across some odd-looking vehicles zooming past the roads, particularly in Daua and Bharatpur districts of the State.

Not only in Rajasthan, you can find such examples in almost every second state in India. It provides the masses with an easy and economical mean of transport. Its the sorry condition of roads that plays a great role in acceptance of such a mode.

Although it is interesting to know the local state of the art machines making their way to the lyfe style of people compared to thsoe ’branded’ ones but then when it comes to bringing the Jugaads on the roads it becomes very very risky. For certain agriculture chores they are the fittest but being run as taxies and tansport should best be avoided. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has banned the plying of these ’vehicles’ which other than being dangerous on the roads do not fall in any category of vehicles under the Motor Vehicles Act. But jugaad is a jugaad is a jugaad...!

I agree with Rajbir as there have been number of cases causing loss of precious lives because of these Jugads.May be they can be improved to come under Motor Vehicles Act.

I remember an anecdote told to me about the driver of a jugaad being tried in a court when his ’vehicle’ met with an accident and half a dozen people died. The judge asked a witness who survived,”Is the driver at fault? ”No, no My Your Honour ! The driver cannot be blamed for the accident at all. He had before dashing his ’vehicle’ announced to all who were travelling along, ”Save your lives and jump to safety if you can!”
